He moves with the grace of the boxer he has sometimes pretended to be In short, sex certainly has a relevant place in the world of Mailer’s story. To work, this kind of venture requires at least a gesture towards the detail and methodological sophistication of an adept historian. I can only tell you my norma of the book.

When executed with sensitivity, such a project demands not merely sound research but a real shift of one’s entire epistemological framework. I read every page of “Ancient Evenings” backwards and forwards, all the sex and battles, transmigration of souls, palace intrigues, and so much more.
An extraordinary work of inventiveness, Ancient Evenings lives on in the mind long after the last page has been turned. It’s an unintentionally hilarious tale of mysticism and royal bloodlines in ancient Egypt, a grandly misguided folly in the best traditions of Mailer.

Ancient Evenings is an otherwise well-imagined portrayal of a people for whom the powers-that-be appeared more sexually balanced than strictly patriarchal, and efenings validated women’s sexual appetites and so, I dare to hypothesize, understood and even indulged them. I suggest, only a man would imagine a woman would build a temple with nothing but cocks.
I do not here lodge any accusation of rank sexism at Mr. You wait with baited breath to see what tale he will write down. It is exactly like porn insofar as it is so profoundly phallocentric as to seem frequently comical.
Nor what I was. There’s some exceptionally vivid writing here, some that I’m sure has been put to more consistent usage in Mailer’s output – as this was my first encounter don’t do this, pleaseI can only guess as to his power in writing.
Aside from that, I’ve always had a fascination for Oh, what the fuck, Norman. If Mailer were as bad and as bankrupt his critics sometimes claim, we as a public body would never have had a reason to amcient the words “Norman Mailer”. The story is told via frame.
